Default remote trunk release option…

i cant remember if i'v ever seen on older A4 [96-01] with working trunk release option … is it only for newer versions and A6 & A8 models… I know most of us have trunk release button on the key, but:
1) how do u know if u your car has trunk release motor installed, it just might be disconnected.
2) is it possible to install one, how hard is it?
3) If u don’t have motor installed is it possible to rewire it so “trunk release” button will turn on/off your lights, cd player, remote start or whatever… ? (I can get one of those switches to remote start your car for cheep, it’s not hard to connect it, all I need is some power to trigger the switch)

I have a 98.5 and I have to push a button on the lid to open the trunk - no auto release

I think the question about using the third button has been covered before, but I can't seem to find the thread...Really it's just a matter of having a receiver that will pick up the frequency that is coming from the transmitter and having the proper switches/relays and stuff to make it control what you want. That sounds easy...although i'm sure it's not, at least not without some pretty serious electronics know-how.

Not certain about the Sedans but my old 99 A4 Avant had the trunk release motor... it worked ok.. I mean as long as the car was unlocked you can still just reach in and grab the handle. the only thing I see is you can open the trunk without unlocking the car doors... Maybe it is a safety thing. My 01 A6 has it and it works the same as my old A4.

would be really nice to have something special like this, that’s y i started this thread, i need some more info on A4 in car receiver, it might be even same part as A6 and A8 and some newer A4s. I have a feeling all audis has same receiver (just because key look the same) buy in older models remote trunk release (motor and wires to it) wasn’t installed. I don’t really want to buy and install new motor, but I would use it to remote start my car it should be pretty easy. yes, i could just buy and install after market remote start, but then I would have to carry another transmitter… so I need more info plzzz; part #, pictures, location of in car remote receiver.
