removing cats ona B5 A4
Hi,
My car has like 11 months MOT but one of the cats needs replacing.
My mate has a 1993 golf vr-6 and he just had his cat completely removed and replaced with a piece of pipe for more performace.
I want to do the same if possible on my 1997 B5 Audi A4 V6 2.8 30v Quattro, however i remember reading that there is an O2 sensor involved in the exaughst system, is this in the cats ? what effect would removign my cats have on economy, performanc, and running, woudl i need the ecu setting up again or would it auto adjust itself like it did with my induction kit ?
any advice, links, info etc apreciated.
Thanks.

You would need to have a t connector for the front oxygen sensor, otherwise the engine will run extremely rich.
The post catalytic oxygen sensor will just give you an annoying CEL because it figures that your converter isn't working

You want a test pipe. You will gain about 10-15hp and your ecu will adjust.
That is a cat-delete mod (search) you will need to do to trick the ecu into thinking the o2 sensor is ok. Otherwise, you will just get a cel for it.
ecstuning or apr both sell test pipes reasonably cheap. You could also get a high-flow cat instead of a test pipe.
EDIT - mI see you are v6, gains wont be as much as a turbo, but you still should get some male performance enhancement.
