plan on changing my lower control arms and front axles on an 01 2.8l quattro 5 spd.......any1 got an idea how long a job im in for time wise? have air tools and a lift at my disposal and am pretty proficiant with a tool in my hand

cost me about 5 bills for the lower control arms and labor. a lil more for the axles, i'd say like 700 as a guess
It took the guy like 3 hours so you should be in that ballpark

 

I'm about to do my control arms, but I might change all of them at once. ECS tuning has a complete kit with tie ro ends for just under $500. The one thing I've read is that when you do the final torque to the control arm bolts, you have to do it with the weight of the car, not while its up in the air. failure to comply will result in premature failure of control arms.

Definitely put some weight on the suspension when you crank everything down. I did all my control arms up front, 2 axles, and all four wheel bearings in about 2 hours.
