I drive 2002 A4 AWD with the sport package and i was wondering what is the widest i can go on the size of the rim in the rear and front

Well, it depends on the offset. But I'd imagine 8.5" in front and 9.5" in rear. In my opinion wide rims on our car just adds unnecessary unsprung weight. With quattro I can see no instance where you would need more tire than an 8" wheel will handle.

since i have QUATTRO i would go wit 8.5 all around

why do you think you need 8.5 all the way around w/ quattro? as long as the circumfrence is the same on all four wheels there shouldn't be a problem.

18x9.5 will be heavier then 18.8.5 and that will effect the quattro system

 

I disagree. The rear diff wouldn't be able to tell it's turnin a wheel 2lb. heavier than the front diff. Diameter is the only issue here, tire diameter that is.

 

i was referring to the width. correct me if i'm wrong, but the weight difference is so minimal that it would not matter unless the wheels were suspended. is the quattro system having to work harder in the back than the front? and don't they make alot of staggered wheels the same weight b/c of systems like quattro? what type of issue would that create in such a senario?

 

Tire diameter is the ONLY concern for quattro. That's it! Not weight, not colour, not ANYTHING.

 

He's right you know. There's a good technical reason, too, but I'm too lazy to look it up and too stupid to remember it.
