Default Rippled lowers...

So seeing as I'm planning to paint my lowers within the next couple of months, I checked em out more closely today just to get a feel for what the task would be like. I've noticed this from day 1 that my lower side moldings which are almost on the underside of the car, not the part that is directly after the painted door. See pic:

Excuse my crappy Paint skills, but the red part is what im talking about. It almost is like the plastic has been morphed by some chemical. Salt maybe (car originally from CT)? How big of an issue will this be when it comes time to paint?

I may have some new front lowers (driver side and passenger side). You are talking about the crappy black rubber pieces right?
