Rotor noises/problem
When switching my wheels from the stock winter rims to my summer rims, I noticed that my front passenger side rotor may have a problem. The rotor is crossed drill so it must not be stock (bought the car used so I have no idea) but the problem is that i can pull the rotor out about a centimeter and it will clunk around, and there is no way to keep it in place. Understand that i mean it comes out toward where the curb would be if driving.
With the stock rims this isnt a problem, as the audi lug bolts keep the rotor tight and it wont move; however, when I put my other rims on, I use studs and conical lug nuts, which do not keep the rotor in place all of the time. After they have been installed for awhile, the front passenger side makes a clunking sound with each rotation of the wheel because the rotor is jiggling. What can i do about this, and is the rotor supposed to move like this?

The rotors shouldn't jiggle. You can install spacers to fill the gap. I assume that the gap is only 1 or 2 mm. Is this correct?
Also, if the rotor isn't being held against the hub by the wheel, you need to figure out why. I would guess that is has something to do with the conical lugs.

Thats the thing theres no gap...the lug nuts just come loose eventualy and it makes noise...but the other rotor doesn move. My question is should the rotor be able to move in any other way than spinning with the wheel? It moves sideways.
Does the wheel wobble when the lugs loosen? The rotor shouldn't really move at all other than with the lug. There is a common A4 problem where worn pads allow the caliper to move. I posted a link earlier today to the Audiworld FAQ about the squeak and thump caused by worn pads. Check it out.
