You could have the dreaded steering column spring creak if it sounds like its coming from inside the steering wheel itself.
The column has a couple springs in it - expensive as hell to change a $5 part. Try tilting the wheel a little, or telescoping it a little to get rid of the noise. Some have lived with it by doing that.

most common cause is loose cowling/cover and touches the steering wheel check for missing screws and if too much free play in the steering wheel
