Default Safe mode on stereo display

I have a question about the stereo. When I got the car it had a flat battery so I jump started it and it is running sweet.

My question is when I push the button to turn the stereo on it comes up SAFE. Tried putting a tape in there and it goes in but don't play. Tried switching it off then back on and the tape ejects.

It looks like the stereo may need a code to get it running but I haven't got a clue where to begin. Any ideas?

yes you need the 4 digit code... if you have the original stereo manual, it was put on a tear out card inside the front cover. It probably isnt there anymore... if you dont have the code you will need to get it from the stealership. They can charge up to $50 just to get your code.

Same problem when I got my car. Call your local dealership service department, ask them about it like your not sure what it is for. Tell them you just got the car. After 10 min on the phone and giving them the vin # 4 times they gave me the 4 digit code. Don't know if this matters but the dealership I called was the dealership where the car was purchased. Maybe they had the code stored, I dont know. All I know is the service depo gave me code after telling me it was gonna cost 1 hour labor. Maybe they gave me a universal code, try the code they gave me 0775. Good luck.

Not a bad idea at all - 98A4TQ, if you try that code, please post up here and let us know if it works out for you. If so, that's good info to have available.

Check in the spare wheel department and look for a 4 number code in the lower corner of the vehicle tag.

Is the security code really on that tag?

MazA4 please let me know if you can get your stereo out of safe mode using that 4 digit number on the tag in the wheel departmet.

I'm not calling anyone out. I would just be very surprised if the code was in the wheel department in the trunk. The reason that it would surprise me is that fact that having asecurity code is supposed to prevent theft of the unit. If someone has broken into your car to steal the stereo, they then have access to get into your trunk, and if they know what they're doing, they look for the code in the back and thus having a security code would be ineffective. Perhaps an audi flaw?

I just recently purchased a certified used car from the dealership and did not get the code. I am not currently in SAFE mode, but there may come a time that I would need the code. The previous Audi that I owned for 4 years never went into safe mode, so its never been concerned, but with this new car, better be prepared if it does go into safe mode. So if its on the tag that would be very useful so I would not need to contact the dealership.

https://www.audiforums.com/m_12129/tm.htm I found this old thread. Can someone please take a picture of the tag with your code on it andidentify exactly what we are looking for?
