Yah well recently occasionally on starting up my car there is this faint sort of scratching sound coming from the engine area. Its not all the time and it doesn't last more than 1 second. Just worries me that something is wrong... I thought it was the belts or something but the belts are tight and everything. Its just weird how it only does it every other startup or so.. Thats the only time.. Anyone experienced this or know anything?

 

It could be the starter going out or a belt that needs a bit of dressing.

My first impression is something starter related, since that is when it occurs.

Well the sound is pretty much right after the engine is started not during the start up. Sounds almost like there is a piece of ice or something falling into the fan and it just gets hit away. Like i saidi looked all in the fan area to see if there was anything there but nothing. The sound only does it occasionally and it only does it maybe twice just like something is falling in and getting knocked out.. Not sure...

 

Maybe the fan is rubbing on the shroud. Idk if these have clutchs on the fans but that could be your problem right there.

 

OK< do this.....

Open the hood poke your head in there, have someone else start the car so you can better see/hear where it is coming from.
At least you'll be able to isolate the location its coming from.
