Default Seat Heater

I have a 2000 A4 1.8T and 67000 miles on it. A few days ago my seat heater caught fire and made a big hole (little bigger than the size of a golf ball) in the seat. This happened when the car was turned off, the seat heater was off, the car was not used in two days (parked in my garage) and the last time I used the seat heater was about 5 months back. This is the passenger side seat. Does anyone have any ideas why and does anyone know if this a is a safety issue where Audi can help me out. All the posts that I read were when the seat heater was on and got burnt. Mine happened when the seat heater and the car was off. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

wow i never heard of that one before, and i only had heated seats in my 96 a4, they were pretty cool. I'd say the best thing to do to start with is take them to the dealer see what they tell you, (if they have heard of a problem like that before) and then go on from there

BTW welcome tothe Forum

I don't think you will get any help from Audi on this issue. It's happenened many times before though.

If the car is still under warranty, then Audi definitely needs to take care it for you. If not, I think it is a safty issue and would still be a good idea to call the dealer up.

I called Audi Customer Relations yesterday. They called me back today and said they were willing to give me 80% off parts and labor to get this fixed. I would have loved for it to be free but this is good enough.

It is true I could have been in it, even worse is that it happened when I was asleep and it could have burnt the whole house down.

Thanks to all for the responses.

Sandeep:

That is scary to hear. I am sorry. But as Jest says, its great of Audi to own some responsibility there while it is out of warranty. Serious, the damages could have been worse!

Good luck,
Shreyas..
