Sell me on the a4... What makes it great?
Thanks everyone for their input! I will be looking for a 1.8t.
Anyone have anything to add to look out for when searching for a a4? Any common problem area's?
You all have been much help.
Thanks!

Just make sure the previous owner replaced that timing belt (or have them discount the purchase price a little if they haven't) and look into the control arm recall (I think there's a recall on that, right?) if you're looking for a B5 (not sure about other generations).
Sounds like you def want a 1.8t for what your looking for. You can go bt and get some pretty nice hp out of them(300plus). Also, not sure what your budget is, but an s4 is always an option aswell if you want something you don't have to play around as much to get some high hp numbers. Just a 600 chip will put you 315+ hp, add a full exhaust and your looking at closer to 330hp to 340hp, without a whole lot of work. Again, there both great platforms, and can make a nice amount of hp.
I dont need a huge load of hp. 250-300 would be about right.. I have a 400hp 2100lb mid engine v8 914 with 9 and 10.5in slicks for my needs of speed...
I mainly want reliable power, good gas milage, and a bit of luxury..
What is the wet weight of a 1.8t? I've read anywhere from 2850-3050.. which is very light for a car of its class.
Im going to take a loan out for 7500, (but I already have most of that in the bank... the loan is for me to have a safety..) and I want to spend a TOTAL of that on the a4.. So im looking at getting one for 5-6.5k and spend 2.5-1k on some wheels, fixing anything thats bad, and any performance mods that I will make..

If you want to know the curb weight for a particular model year go to audiworld.com and navigate through the "model guide" section. The 1.8T is definitely not under 3100lbs...not even the FWD.
