Default Is the shop responsible?
I had my car aligned about 2 months ago and a few weeks ago I noticed the inside of my front left tire was down to the threads and I was losing mpg's. I took it an hour away to Reno for a compitent alignment and he said that the adjustments in the rear were still loose and the toe was out a 1/2". He also said that the previous tech didn't touch some of the adjustments in the front. This alignment is costing about $375 at $86 an hour for lowered vehicles. He has to shift the subframe and such. I know I can get a refund on the original alignment but my question is should I be able to get reimbursed for this alignment since they screwed up and I had to have it done right at another shop?

I know, that's the question, would I have a chance?

I run a fleet of vehicles and take them to this shop for tires and hopefully I can use that as leverage.

I would atleast try to have them do something (new tires) and atleast you'll find out who your dealing with.

I just talked to them and he said to bring in the receipt and they would take care of me. At first he wanted to hook me up with some tires but i told him I just bought my new tires from him a month ago and I wasn't interested in new ones but the money I'm out now having to fix the screw up. I also told him I would hate to have to take my commercial account elsewhere so that might have helped. This money came out of Christmas money for the kids so my wife was pissed and I told him that and he didn't want her walking in there. [:@]

LOL yeah, I'm sure he understands that. Most likely the hint that he could lose the commercial account work from you over this is what spurred him into taking care of it. Does he know he's gonna be footing a nearly $400 alignment bill, or does he think he's just paying for another alignment at a typical rate?

You should settle for the refund if thats been offered. most quaility shops will work with any issues, however you cannot get something for nothing so dont expect the shop to pay for the realignment.
You may calmly request a tire reimbersment , but do it CALMLY.. you will be money ahead..
