Well, thats what its for isn't it?

Put the parking brake on, and chalk a back wheel so it doesn't fall on your aszz. Use a jackstand if you have one.

Jackstands => $30 , priceless return on investment, a must have. Nice floor jacks can be found for $25-50 as well.

max size allowed per image is 250k.

Check your image sizes, reduce if necessary.

That crunching sound is usually I wheel bearing I thought.

From your pictures, the CV joints look good. You didn't take any pictures of the tie rod end. You can see them if you are squatting next to the tire. It is just behind the tire and you will see a little rubber boot on it. If the tie rod end is shot you may feel some wiggle in the steering, though I don't think that would be your crunching problem anyway.

Dalgo, if we are looking at the same flat piece of metal, I believe that is there for mounting a plactic protective panel under the car. Apparently it is missing on this car. It isn't necessary and its not a big deal if you throw it away. You have to remove it to get to your oil filter and its a pain to put up anyway.

In your first post, you said that you took it to a mechanic. Unless your mechanic is severely retarded, he would have seen a bad CV joint or tie rod end. My suggestion would be to get a second opinion from another mechanic before going to a dealer. I don't really think dealer mechanics are any better than a regular mechanic. You just have to find a good mechanic through trial and error and then just hold on to him once you find him.

BTW, make sure you always check both sides. I can't tell you how many times I heard something coming from the right front of the car and the problem was actually on the left front. Don't rule out the rear either. It is tough to hear where things are really coming from when you are in the drivers seat.

I am casting my vote for bad wheel bearings even though those CV joints look great.

EWE!! You took it to a gas station mechanic? Maybe you will luck out and find a guy there who is ok, but those places are more like mini lube shops and they use junk oil. I try to find a mechanic with a serious business. At least have like 6 bays or something. Any "garage" with one bay and a minimart attached is not going to touch my car.

Dalgo, I was thinking of taking some pictures for you, but it was dark out by the time I posted. My car actually has bad tie rod ends (ordering parts this weekend) so I will show you what a bad one looks like from my car, although you could find a pic on the internet pretty easy too.

Yea post pics of the dash. There are all kinds of issues with the display, but usually its the center screen, not the guages.
