Hi, I have a German spec. A4. It's a Baujahr 2/99 and a 1.8L engine. No turbo! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best type of oil to use for the best performance. I've been putting 10W-40 in it but maybe I should use another type. I'm sure there is a guru here who can help. Thanks!

Try using the search link for the "simple" questions.. Thats what its there for. Most people use 5w40 or 5w30 VW spec synthetic. Amsoil euro car formula 5w40 is what i use... Some use Mobil 1 and royal purple among others, but those 3 are vw spec-look for it on the back of the bottle.. Says VW 502. somethin somethin..

 

Hp gains from oil are going to be negligable at best. Save your money for a turbo setup.

 

i use royal purple 5w-30 is't a little on the pricey side but they say u can just change the oil filter and top off a couple of time before really changing the oil thats not what i do but you can. i have been quite impressed with royal purple products i use to have a civic si and i used it in that and it ran so much better and i now use it in my 01 a4 and i have yet to have any issues motor wise. I look at it this way if i take can of the engine now it will take care of me in the long run. i have also heard good things about ams oil but no one where i lives sells it
