Default small scratch on the plate that surrounds the shifter...

I recently purchased an 02 Audi A4 3.0 and being a car fanatic, I am trying to make this car look spotless. So far its coming out good but I am having a problem taking out a scratch that is on the plate that surrounds the shifter. The scratch is right next to the tiptronic gauges on the surface that looks almost like its aluminum but I believe its plastic. Does anyone know what might work in taking out this scratch? Also does anyone know what the "S" stands for below Drive on the shifter?

Any help would be appreciated

Hmmm... I can't seem to find that in the DIY section. Can you send me a link? Do you have pictures? Also do you know what the "S" stands for on the shifter?

Thanks!!

Easy solution would be just to take it off and use a bench-mounted buffing/polishing wheel on it.
If it doesn't come out enough, the brush-look conversion is nott a bad way to go.
The nice thing about that is that later, you can take a scotch-brite pad to it, and rubbing in the direction of the grain, remove any marks.
I do this on my brushed aluminum Omega watch clasps.
