Metal Plate Around Shifter

Metal Plate Around Shifter
I have a 2001 A6 automatic and I need a new metal plate that goes around the shifter. Where can I get one of these? Does anybody have a spare? Mine is all dinged up and I want a nice shiny one. Let me know.
Thanks for the help

Why not polish it? You can remove it, work it over on your workbench, give it a nice clearcoat of laquer, and put the money you saved into other mods.
Otherwise, you're either looking at used (e.g., shokan.com), which will probaby be dinged up as well, or new, which will probably cost a fortune.

I actually thought about removing my wood trim around my shifter and sanding it down and reapplying some poly to it, but I also was unsure how to remove it

RE: Metal Plate Around Shifter
Piece of cake...
Get a plastic putty knife (get a few different widths -- they're cheap and you'll use them for removing all sorts of trim). Insert it under the rear of the shift cover (between the wood and the plastic surrounding it. Pry up gently. Keep lifting as if it's hinged along the forward edge until you've got the rear edge about 4" up. Now slide it forward removing it. You'll see that there are four clips that hold it in place.
BIG QUALIFIER: I just described how to remove one if you you've got a six speed (left out the "unscrew shifter ball" step, but I figured that would be obvious). If you've got a tip (which you do, otherwise you wouldn't be concerned about the metal), you're on your own because I have no idea. Do a search to see if you can find the procedure on this.
Now wasn't that splendedly helpful?
