Default Sorry to bore, but need tire help...

Hi, Ron from Portland here... new to the forum, but not new to Audis. Have had quite a few in the family starting with the all new "most aerodynamic ever" '83 5000 (in that lovely beige color) and most recently with a 2004 (dolphin grey) A4 1.8t-Q w/ Ultrasport package. Oh, and my mom has an S-line A6 2.7T I borrow as often as I can.

So I've got around 25,000 miles on the car, and I'm suddenly in need of a new set of tires. Let's just say it's the wife's car, and leave it at that. And no offense to any ladies here - it's just that my wife isn't a car person, and thus isn't real detail attentive to details like, oh, noticing when tires are low before it's too late, etc.

Anywhooo, I've searched the forum but didn't find the answer to this particular question - Can go 255/35/18 (I realize this is a little shorter than stock) or 265/35/18 in width on my stock height A4, which has the 18" Ultrasport wheels, without rubbing? I know it's not much wider, but the tolerances look pretty close to me...

Everywhere I've checked in this area, no matter what brand, the stock-sized tires are backordered (except for the stealership, where I refuse to pay $1000 for 4), so I figured if I'm gonna have to order anyway I'd go a little larger, mainly to try and protect the wheels from curb rash, but also for a little more aggressive stance.

Thanks in advance

Thanks, I like tirerack and I was planning on ordering from there. I mainly am wondering if anyone is running 255 or 265 width tires w/out mods, and if they fit. Search didn't help. Thanks.

No, I have (well, had) Continentals. I actually bought mine at University Audi up there - they were great. The local dealer here wanted over MSRP (I bought when they first came out).
