Default Speed sensor

Having bought a code reader for my A4 and checking the codes I keep coming up with a speed sensor error. I have cleared the code and my auto box works fine for a short time then drops back into safe mode.
Anyone had the same problem? I have found the sensor and ordering one soon, are they easy to fit? and anyone esle had the same problem with there own auto?

Thanks
Ian

Should be easy to replace it. Never heard of the speed sensor causing the trans to go into limp mode, but i can see a failed sensor causing that.

When you have the sensor out use a flashlight and maybe a mirror to inspect the toner ring for damage. Also make sure the sensor is in all the way.

Thanks for the reply. I cant reset the code anymore as it just keeps throwing up the same code and cant clear it so this time it looks like its shot.
I have taken out the sensor which is G38. It just twists out and I assume the magnet is inside the gearbox.
The pickup part of it pulls out and a oil seal O ring I cant seem to test it so I may just have to bit the bullet and buy one in the hope thats the problem. The sensor sits onto of the drive shaft.
