well...it's a bigger problem for me...especially if i go down south...i'm
brown and a muslim...so we get screwed with white cops...but up in ithaca, ny
people are pretty cool...HOWEVER...i just got a ticket the other day for
missing the damned red light by the fraction of a second...showed up for
court yesterday...gave me 2 points and $150...so i'm getting scared thinking
about my next insurance bill...[]

If you live in the US and are a male, your record gets "reset" at age 25.. But points are reduced on your Bday if you have any until then.

I think because we're from all over the states, (some canada) we have mixed opinions on what to do... In NJ... in my case, I got a ticket for careless driving (i was speeding, excessively, but he took it easy on me)... when i was 19.... first ticket.. got me 2 points on my license... must've paid well over $2000 more for insurance...
Some states offer a program where the first couple of times you get a moving violation, you can plead guilty to an adjusted sentence (unsafe driving - 0pts in NJ)... The fine is $375 ($200 fine + $125 to the court) here in NJ... I represented myself and paid the fine with no points... As a college student, $375 is already a huge hit, and moral values learned. $2000+ in insurance money is being ripped off by damn NJ insurance... paying the consequence is important, yes. However, no need to donate money to the insurance company.

Just plead not guilty and fight it in court. if the cop doesn't show up you get the charges dropped. If he does show up the worst that will happen is you still get the ticket.

The last ticket I got I plead not guilty, showed up, so did the cop, but he made me an offer to lower the fine and the points. Better than nothing.
