Squeeky Gear Stick
My 2002 A4 manual has started to squeek from the gearstick when changing to 1st or 2nd gear (i.e. the left hand side of the box/gate)
Its definitly not the gearbox or anything bad, it's the stick or levers underneath rubbing on something.
Does anyone know either what the problem may be or how I get to the gearstick itself (the bit under the leather cover?) to have a look and maybe oil. I suspect you might just have to pull on it but I dont want to pull too hard in case it is fastened down.
Thanks

This should let you know how to take the shift boot off and have a look. I'm pretty sure it applies to your car; it doesn't look like my center console, but I could be wrong. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but it looks like an older car to me.
Not the same as mine anyway.
Unfortunatly it doesn't go into details about removing the sleeve/shift boot either - it uses the term 'self explainatory' - I'm a definite amateur mechanic so was hoping for an idiots guide really.
THanks all the same.
Does anyone else know how to remove the boot?
