Default starter problem

Hey I was wondering if someone might have an idea about my starter not engaging. The car just had new headgaskets put on ran forfine then when I put it in gear it stalled and now when I go to start the car again it sounds like the starter wont engage. Any help would be appreciated

Your timing belt is broken or slipped off or else the plunger in the starter is not pushing the starter gear out into the flywheel or flexplate depending on tranny. Since you just had the head gasket replaced I would think it has to do with the timing belt. Remove the upper timing belt cover to see. If it is the starter you will need a new one it can't be rebuilt if that condition occures.

I figure any auto electric place could rebuild the starter for cheap. I had my taurus SHO's alt rebuilt for $70.... I bet a starter wouldn't be more than that.

I took the covers off to see the timing belt and its didnt look to great on the side without the teeth pieces of the belt were worn very badly and with the covers off I turned it over and the cam gears and timing belt were spinning so I guess the starter is fine and its going to be way bigger problems.
