As far as I know Audi has been recommending synthetic since at least the late 1990s. I've been running it in my cars for the last 20 years. It's well worth the extra cost because of the fuel savings and the longer engine life.

why do people just read the title and praise synthetic oil?..... NO **** ITS BETTER!
I am looking at buying an 2000 S4, it does not have the earliest service records... these oil changes would have been done by the dealer... I want to know if dealers knew to use synthetic back when this car was new, because synthetic was not used on my mom's 2001 VAG 1.8t by the dealer.
