Default Taking over an A4 lease

Hi all, this is my first post on this forum, so please be gentle! My last car was an '01 Acura CL 3.2. I loved everything about that car except for the rattles! I have the opportunity to assume the last 16 months of an '04 A4 1.8T Auto CVT. I am very tempted to jump on this .. but before I bite the bullet, I thought I'd come on here and ask a couple questions

1. What would you expect the monthly payment for this lease to be? (Ive been offered $450/month)
2. Will these wheels fit on the car? 18x8 OZ Antares, Bolt Pattern: 5x100, Offset: 35
3. The car has its original 4-Year/50,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty, is there anything significant I should be worried about in terms of service that isnt covered by the warranty?

p.s - Based on the current usage, I can avg 1700 miles/month on the car for the remainder of the lease period.
p.s.s - Here are the options he mentioned (most of which I am assuming are standard): Concealed headlight washer system, Front and rear power windows (w/ One-Touch & Pinch Protection), Bose (R) Premium Sound System, 17-Inch Cast Alloy Wheels, Automatic dual-zone climate control with dust and pollen filter

THANKS!

Hey... welcome to the wonderful world of Audi... I have that exact car only with Quattro... great car.. and you wont have your past rattles. As far as the monthly payments go... I couldn't tell you... The wheels would probably not fit as i beleive the Audis have a 112x35 fitting. How many miles does the car have on it? I'm somewhere up to the 50K mark and nothing really serious has come up. At the 60K you'll want to look into the timing belt nd water pump kit. But that depends on how many miles is on it right now. I'm sure that many other people on this site will give you there input on your situation. I can tell you you'll be happy if you get this car.... I love it.

Fez, thanks for the response!

The car is currently at 18,540 miles out of the allowed 42,180 miles. Since the lease ends on January 29, 2007 .. I figured I can average almost 1700 miles/month between now and then.

And another noob question -- What are the differences between the CVT and the Quattro?

2006 2.0T CVT with sunroof package is running $349 per month, 10,000 miles per year, right now. So, I think the lease assumption is expensive, by comparison.

edit: that's for a 24 month lease. The payments on a 24 month lease are less than a 36 month lease, right now.

Very interesting .. I'm going to do some more research on the pricing (maybe even use that in negotiations).

Thanks for the heads up!

You cannot get the CVT on a Quattro. CVT only offered on the front wheel drive version. The Quattro has a tiptronic, IIRC. The CVT provides improved City fuel economy.

Taken from Dave Ramsey:

"Consumer Reports, Smart Money Magazine, and a good calculator will tell you that the car lease is the most expensive way to finance and operate a vehicle. The way to minimize the money lost on things that go down in value is to buy slightly used. A new car selling for $28,000 on average will lose $16,800 of its value in the first 4 years, making it worth about $11,200. You are losing about $350 per month in value! Why do dealers push leases? The typical new-car sale nets the dealer only $82, but if you lease it the dealer's profit is between $1,000 and $1,300! "

Absolutely agree with the financial advantages of buy vs lease.

The way I look at it is this --- I get an almost brand new car for $400/month (I may be able talk her down a bit) with no money down. I can drive the car like a rental for the next 12-14 months and then turn it in.

400 dollars a month is a lot of money to throw away every month just to drive a car like a rental. I would prefer my payments to go toward something other than "rent". Whatever floats your boat though.
