check out www.tdiclub.com

i used to have a tdi jetta and wanted the audi tdi but like you, no luck..... one guy on the site i gave u converted a passat to a 4motion v6 turbo diesel..... i forget where the link is at on there but ask around and someone can point you in the right direction...

cost far outweighs benefits but it would be a fun, long and arduous process

also, youll have to forgive me, but im not sure about european driving, are there left hand drive european cars?
Most European vehicles are left-hand drive. Only a fewplaces in the entire world (off the top of my head,England, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and maybe a couple others)use right-hand drive.

From the sound of what the swap project is shaping up to be, I would suggest you consider finding a rolling chassis A4 - maybe somebody somewhere sucked some water into their CAI and seized up their engine and isn't going to repair it. Then you won't feel so bad about scrapping/parting out the petrol engine anddrivetrain components!

So im pretty sure the TDi A4, with some performance mods, and a 5 speed, will be plenty quick.
automatics are faster with diesels...

Edit: at least they are with trucks... maybe because of the long throw.

The cheapest place to pick up a TDI would be Germany as that where they are made and they love them over there so they would be ten a penny. I would look for a late car as it as more power than the early cars plus trying to find a Quattro TDI might be hard not even sure they made one.

As you can see from the parts list you would be taking on a major undertaking converting a car but you want to consider buying a crashed TDI and using that but it would be fair to say you would almost be swapping every major part on the petrol car as they are two different beasts.

that one guy on www.tdiclub.com that converted the passat to 4motion tdi got the whole wiring harness in a box! he laid it out on a piece of plywood the shape of a car to label each connection...... way too much trouble

audi makes a bad *** a3 TDI sport with quattro and 200hp, no telling how much torque it has!

Papachristou - I also joined tdiclub and found the thread youre talking about in the conversions section, so im reading up on that. But it does seem from what everyone is telling me, the best option really does seem to be to just import a TDi a4 from germany. Ive already got two quassi project cars, and even though i plan on tearing open the engine to do modifications it would be really nice to not have to COMPLETELY tear apart and rebuild everything under the chassis.... and some things within it. This is why i ask the questions before buying stuff

FasterA4ThanUrs - i believe the reason the automatics are faster, would be in terms of off the line acceleration, and its due to the torque multiplication of the stall converter. with the high torque from a diesel, the multiplication factor is even more important, although it does trail off quickly, which is why gas powered cars will catch up and pass, even if the diesel destroys them off the line. Unless youre talking about a fully race prepped auto for drag racing, which will always beat a manual, and be more consistant (which is why my IROC has one). However, as ive stated, my main goal is a fun car to drive, which to me means a manual, but the priority is fuel economy. and manuals tend to get better mileage than the automatics due to the nature of an automatic transmissions opperation. (aka slipping clutches).

Im still completely in the dark as to who i might talk to about the pricing of importing an Audi from germany or canada, or any foreign nation for that matter.
