Default Tea Kettle noise?

My car has been in and out of the tuning shop for a hose (?) that keeps coming loose. Its coming from right around the turbo area. Now the weird part is when its loose, and I know it cuz it squeals very loud, I boost higher and the car accellerates much harder than it normally does. As soon as it gets fixed, the car doesnt pick up as well. My car rarely boosts above 15, but when this hose? is loose, it gets up around 20..My setup includes, awe FMIC w/out the aluminum piping ( dont know why), tt225 injectors, K04 software on a K03 turbo (long story, is the reason my tuner claims my car is not boosting as it should-but still cant explain the hose being loose making it boost like it should), samco intake hose (possibly the cause?), milltek catback exhaust with awe hi flo cat, and an awe boost gauge..Another question mark with my car..is ever since i had my engine/turbo replaced ( which is another long story) the car always ran great and was supposedly replaced with a K04. And i noticed the turbo was a lot louder under even low boost, by louder I mean the whistle was very noticeable, which i attributed to it being a K04..Well I recently found out it wasnt a K04,because my tuner said he checked the serial number on the turbo and its a K03. Which is why ive mentioned before about dropping in a GT28rs or T3...So to sum it up Im wondering 2 things..most importantly, why is an air leak causing my car to run better? And why is my K03 so loud, my original turbo was never that loud.. thanks in advance guys, im always buggin you guys with questions all the time-only cause you guys are so helpful tho lol

Do you know which hose it is? I wonder if it could be the hose going to your turbo from your airbox. If that came off it would make it a lot louder and also there would be a lot less air restriction so it could increase power. Not sure though.

As for the K03 being really loud, they might have used the K03 housing and put K04 internals in it. The K03 and K04 are the same turbo except that the compressor wheel is larger. So if that happened then the serial number would be that of a K03 and not a K04 but still have the K4 internals.

Not sure if that helped any but I tried. Next time your car gets really loud and gets more power open up the hood and look down at the turbo and see if the hose from the airbox to the turbo is off.

The turbo 'whistle' is always loud regardless if the hose is on tight or loose..Like im doing 20 miles an hour boosting around 7..and you can hear the turbo LOUD 'tssssss'.. The only change when I hear the other noise (tea kettle like) is performance. The car runs MUCH better, responsiveness is great, accelleration is great. When its not loose, car is very sluggish and inconsistent. Rarely boosts like it should, stays stuck around 13. Ive been goin back and forth with inconsistency and this hose popping off and its beyond frustrating. Im almost considering taking everything off myself, even though I have no experience. Just for the fact its already been to the tuning shop over 3 times and all they do is pop it back into place and say they dont know why it performs better when its loose, and then say the car feels sluggish otherwise because Im running K04 software on a K03. Im getting kind of tired of all of this and am seriously considering just putting in a T3 since they are pretty cheap. But in the meantime, any ideas on what to look for to get the car running properly now since I dont plan on doin the T3 until Christmas the earliest. I dont know if this will help diagnose this issue or if its even remotely related but I figure Ill give as much info about my car as possible. So on top of these things I previously mentioned, on dead cold start-like after sitting for a night- the car shudders on startup, although very minor its every morning, but other than that it starts right up everytime. Another thing is the fuel filter, makes a noticeable hissing noise which it never made until my fuel pump went and I replaced it two times with it still whining under hard accelleration. Finally decided to try and replace the fuel filter, and the fuel pump stopped whining, but theres still a noticeable 'sssss' type hiss sound by the rear wheelwell ( right where the fuel filter is) mechanic who did the work assures me thats normal, but again never made that noise before. Again not sure if this could at all relate in any way, but im just trying to give as much info as possible. Thanks for reading if you got this far, and if anybody has any ideas or suggestions, Im willing to try anything right now because after spending all the money I did on modding, and not getting the results its really frustrating.

EDIT: Also something I noticed on cold starts, my car is a lil more responsive, and it almost seems like the car relies more on the turbo when its cold, cause ill be barely on the gas and boosting at like 7 psi, when normally it would be around 0 or 1 psi. And if i try to accellerate slightly it will get up to 14 psi very easily. Dont know if thats normal or not.

Hmmmm.

I really do not know, but I will throw some ideas out there.

First of all, you should post a picture of the hose that keeps popping off so we can take a look at it and make sure we are all talking about the same thing. Some overall engine shots may not hurt either.

I assume you have an intake in there. If your intake hose is popping off could it be an air restriction problem? What type of air filter do you use. A K&N or other high flow should work well. If its not high flow, you could see a small bump in power when the intake hose pops off, but it would have to be a pretty clogged filter I would think to be very noticable.

MAF issues, possibly heat soak issues?

That hissing sound from the filter area seems odd. I haven't noticed a hiss in my car.

Oh and I was thinking the same thing about K04 internals in a K03 housing. Don't know how to check that, but that may be what you have.

So pretty sure this post isn't all that helpful, but maybe it will get some brainstorming going. Be patient, there are some very smart Audi guys on here. Just give them time to think about it and post suggestions.

All of these issues sound like they aren't related, it makes it hard to diagnose when you start putting crap in the motor without full knowledge of what it does.
First off the fuel filter gets clogged and takes out the fuel pumps in a very quick manner and can make the engine stumble when its cold.
As for your engine running better when its cold, its probably because its in "open" loop ignoring the O2 sensors until the engine gets hot, because you have bogus software in the engine it gets all wacked out after it reaches closed loop.
Now for the tea kettle noise you speak of is probably the damn turbo screaming because its moving at twice the speed when it hits 20 psi.
There is a few possiblities why the turbo is spiking boost all crazy,
1. the vaccum line to the wastegate falls off
2. the wastegate itself is getting stuck
3. the software doesn't know whether to s*** or go blind cause your running k04software with a k03.
Get under your car and tryand find this stupid line the mechanic istalking about because i think he is full of**** when he says there is a line thats coming off and he doesn't understand why its making the boost spike.

My intake is completely stock, all it has is a samco intake hose on it. As for turbo 'screaming', it sounds the same at 7 psi as it does at 15.. Maybe a little louder at 15, but it is VERY LOUD at 7 for no reason.. And the car boosting on cold start..It boosts at 10-12 and im just enough on the gas to hold a steady 20 mph, that cant be normal.

Also, the boost really doesnt spike. The problem is that it doesnt boost like it should, stays stuck around 13 psi instead of 19-20. Theres also a ton of lag. But most of these problems dissappear when this mystery hose is loose and making that obnoxious tea kettle noise.

Im telling you f*** the damn hose, there isn't any hose on the engine that will make your boost go up and down, up and back down again. Of course your turbo is gonna be loud as hell with an intake line off or whatever it is. You have to find out whats causing the stupid hose to come off in the first place, its either gonna be your wastegate sticking closed your turbo to boost like all hell or something like that, in which case it could easilly blow off intake lines. Or it could be your faulty engine management, who knows? You have to get in there and check it out or have someone else take a look at it, either way there isn't anyone here that can just tell you what it is.
