yea its just the cable and drivers for the cable so your computer will recognize it. Got to get the software some other way...

 

I couldnt find the software... Is there somewhere i can just take my car to get it scanned?

yes take it to autozone and they should do it for free. But eventually invest in the vag cable/software. Its a great thing to have for more than just reading codes.

 

I bought one of those ebay vag cales and it works fine with up to v4 of the vag software.

 

ya the ebay cables should work with any OBD II port and vag com software. You will hear some say that it doesnt work, but it does. The cable is actually a very basic part that is simple to replicate. Its just attaining the software and getting it up and running correctly that can be a bitch and some blame it on their cable when it is a user error and not a hardware error.

 

you can download the software at Ross-tech.com its 100 bucks to register the software, and def worth it!!! you can download the basic version with very limited features for free
