Ticking noise that comes and goes
I have a 2001 A4 1.8T that I just purchased for my son. It has about 124k mile on it. I was told the oil chain tensioner wasn't working correctly. Upon pulling the pan found out the pickup tube was plugged. Cleaned it up and put it together and started the engine. Seem to have a ticking noise towards the back of the engine. I pulled the value cover off and looked to see if I could tell if anything was wrong. No noticable ware marks. I put the cover back on. Put on oil preasure gauge and getting around 20 psi at idile. The ticking noise appears to build and the noise goes away for about 5 seconds and then starts all over again. After cleaning the screen I put one quart of transmission fuild in with the oil to help clean the sludge away. I have just ran the engine to working temprature. I started up the engine after it set for a couple of weeks and it didn't make the ticking noise. But after a couple of minutes the noise came back. Is it sticky lifters or is it the tensioner on the valve drive chain? Something else? Thanks.
