I have a 93 90s and my engine is ticking! Very loud when you first start her up and queits down as it runs but it doesn't go away? I've tried oil additives and nothing as of yet! Any suggestions?

Im not gonna lie, i have like 0 experience with the audi 90, you would get a lot better responses in the classic audi section.

On the modern day engines, its usually sludge or a cam tensioner problem. I think the 90 uses the old *** style 2.8L engine, so i would look into an oil pressure problem.

If the ticking is quite loud, and quiets down over time (as the engine heats up) it might be a cracked exhaust manifold..You should either have a 6 cyl, or maybe a 5 cyl?
The 5 cylinders are prone to having the exhaust manis crack, especially if a motor mount is shot, causing the engine to exert some of its weight on the exhaust.(although by the 90's the design gt better)

Open the hood, and listen for the clicking noise, it should be easy to tell wether its the mani, or maybe a sticky lifter.

Does the exhaust bang, or clunk when driving over large bumps?

if you have the V6 which im thinking of this is normal to the sense that the old 12v starts to get a slight ticking on startup because the oil hasent reached the cams. the latter may be lack of oil in the cam/lifters or you may just be hearing the fuel injectors which make a ticking noise, try the sea foam treatment to get rid of any slugde and free up any sticking lifters, also try a slightly heavier oil which will provide more cushion on the aging parts, i have the same ticking on my car

Seafoam is a solvent type cleaner that you can buy from any autoparts store. There are a lot of topics on it in the A4 section for sludge.

Pour about 1/2 the can into the crank case and drive it (lightly) for about 50 miles and change the oil and filter. It should clean out most of the oil passages and PCV system componets.
