Timing Belt How Much?
I have an 2000 A4 1.8T andI justpassed 100 thousand miles. The stock belts are still on. ShouldI replace all belts or which ones? Also how much is a good price for a timing belt? I heard there expensive too change. Thanks
think you should definitely see into getting your timing belt replaced, new water pump, serpent belt and tensioner all go along with changing the timing belt.
I got mine done for $600,along with a new thermostat at 70k miles, this is a good price for the job as the dealer will have no problemrobbing you for $1000 plus

My engine code is APU (99 A4 1.8T AT). What timing belt kit do I order?
I have found this kit on the internet and I think it looks good: http://www.dieselgeek.com/Detail.bok?no=306but it doesn't list my engine code.

your engine code should be AEB if you got a 99. never even heard of APU. take off your engine cover (just unscrew the 3 little screws) and it should be engraved on the bottom right of the block

this is the view if your standing over the driver side wheel well looking at the engine

It's a 99.5 (sorry, forgot to mention). It's night now and I went and checked the sticker in the spare tire well. Clearly states engine code APU.
The engine code is also listed here: http://www.autoshoppingcenter.com/Vo...ginescode.htmlscroll down to A4 and you will see APU also listed on the right.
I will also check on the engine itself tomorrow.

Looks like from what I am reading the APU is a pretty rare motor, it was 99.5 only. Which led me out to my 99.5 to re-check the block and I have an AEB. Guess my motor has been replaced at some point... lol no wonder the compression was so damn good at 145K... its listed here
In case you have less time & are not sure whether u can change it urself, then www.goapr.com I got my belt changed in mid-2006 for $550 inclusive of everything. But if u can do it urself, it ll save u a lot. I myself dont have any garage/enough tools etc.
