Hi guys:

You can get the tools from http://www.zdmak.com/wbstore/main.as...242&CTMP=1

They sell just about any tools you need for Audi. You can get the cam tool (3243 for 12 valve) and the crank holder (3242 for any 2.8) for $100 bucks for both. Shipping is standard UPS ground service, though, which costs a low $10.00. I wish the sight had an option to ship it faster, but not.

Look, I'm a VW certified tech. If you have the cam tool and crank tool, you can get the timing correct, but you really should have some experience working with Audi. Audi and VW are like no other car. If you get the timing wrong, your engine will need to be rebuilt, plain and simple.

What year is the car?
Would you advise against doing it yourself even if you have all the necessary tools? I'm curious in doing my timing belt as well coming up next year. It looks like a lot of work but I'm sure it makes you appreciate your car a lot more. Say, what is the estimate time for someone who has never done this before to do? How many days would you recommend to set aside to do this, or is it do able in one day if you start from morning and go till night?

Thanks.

Why on earth do you dig up a thread from 2 years ago? Audi and VW aren't that much different from any other car. As a VW tech I'm sure you know the difference between non-interference and interference engine designs...

Well, why not? Some good discussion here... I figured I'd check to see if there was a little more life out of this thread....
