Default Timming belt for a 01 A4 w/ V6

I have a 2001 A4 with the V6 and I am going to need a timing belt. the book says change at 105,000 and I am nearly there but I am wondering at what time they generaly break. Do they last longer that 105k? dealer is wanting $1800 to change and i just don't have that kind of money to spend on the car at this time. I guess I am wonder if i can safely push it and if so, How far?

Thanks

Do not risk it, change asap.

Its far worse than that if it breaks, 1800 will seem like cheapness.

You should be able to find a non-dealer import shop to do it for around 800-1000. Shop around a bit.

Find an independent mechanic. Should cost $800 or less.
Timing belt
tensioner
water pump
damper pulley
front belts
antifreeze
