Default Timming belt for a 01 A4 w/ V6

I have a 2001 A4 with the V6 and I am going to need a timing belt. the book says change at 105,000 and I am nearly there but I am wondering at what time they generaly break. Do they last longer that 105k? dealer is wanting $1800 to change and i just don't have that kind of money to spend on the car at this time. I guess I am wonder if i can safely push it and if so, How far?

Thanks

The timing belt is a major part that should not be neglected. Its recommended to change it every 60k-70k. With 105k you're definitely pushing it. The manual says alot of things that people with even a little automotive knowledge would regard as BS. Regular maintenance is a necessity on these cars. The stealership will always overcharge you, find a reputable vw/audi/euro shop. They'll usually do it for half what the stealership wants. Goodluck...you'll get more traffic in the A4 section so ask your questions there.

When you do the timing belt its good to replace all the associated parts, especially with your mileage. Find a kit like this click here

thank you. I think it was changed already from the sound of everyone else, in the manual is states that on the 105k check the timming belt gets changed. I was just wondering how long the average was for these cars.
