the "magnetic strip"
in the shifter mechanism there is a series of magnets that have to be in proximity to each other. One is on the shifter mechanism, one is on the electronics card that holds the leds for the shifter position
This seems to dies sometimes. Also it could simple be out of aligmnent - it is very touchy.
What year is this car?
