Do i disconnect the + side or the negative side or both?

 

The most likely cause is in the shifter. There is a magnetic pickup which tells when it is in tip. This often get loose.

 

I opened up my shifter under the chrome surface plate thing and i fould a verly long but slim magnet just resting on the right side of the inside of my shifter... I dont know where this magnet goes but i am hoping this is what came loose inside the shifter... does anyone know where this magnet is supposed to go... God i hope this is it right here... i want my tip back

 

I have tried, searched, and have looked around enough for an answer and i feel like giving up... can someone help me... I dont want to go to the dealership cause i am afraid that they will shake me upside down and take all the dough i have....

 

Just disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

from his 1st post its a 1998 A4Q and there are 3 fuses linked to the automatic transmission #15 #2 #31 the fuse plate/box is in the door jam end of dash panel it can only be opened with the door open so you need to look carefully at the plate for the numbers of the fuses and they are stamped F2 F15 F31 I hope that helps

 

I already looked at all the fuses and they were all good...
