Default Tiptronic wear?

OK guys, first I wanted to say hello as a newbie. A bit of background wouldn’t hurt I guess.

I purchased my black 2001.5 A4 1.8T Quattro about a year ago for a fairly good price. Since then I have fallen in love with the car. Anyways I had a question for ya. I drive with the Tiptronic 99% of the time aggressively. I would say I only use it 50% of the time on upshifts, but about 99% on downshifts. I use the tip to save the brakes honestly. I find the tip can allow for a very nice gradual slow down and much less brake use and thus less brake dust. I always brake with the tip even when I have to be quite aggressive and cause those rpm’s to spike a bit. The only time I dont use it to brake is when something happens SO fast that I don’t have time to shift. This isn’t to common though.

My question is how much strain this is putting on the tranny? Is it really all the bad for it?

Thanks in Advance!

Hey A41.8TQATL, welcome to the forum. I'm going to guess that your tranny will be alright. Brakes are cheaper than a new transmission though honestly. Is beating on your transmission better than a little brake dust??

Get a giac tip chip, they are good for the tranny and will make your shifts alot faster.

hey A41.8TQATL
don't worry about it. I do the same thing, and I have done it to both my tip cars. I had my 98.5 sedan for 4 years and did it all the time. I use the tip mode exclusively unless I am drinking coffee in traffic, etc. As long as you don't rev the crap out of it (ie. shift down to 2nd when you are going 45 mph) you'll be fine.
