tire pressure
sandman's right, you may not be old enough to remember the ford explorer/firestone incident. there was a huge scandal about the tires ripping, explorers flipping, people dying and getting hurt, and other stuff.... so they recommended setting the psi a little below the maximum tire pressure. so, for example, max 45, set it to about 40.

you should also look at the rate the it says for the car.. not just the tires.. i think its on the inside of the gas flap at least it is on mine

For those of you who are relatively new, make sure that you check the pressure when the tires are cold (Ie first thing in the AM), not after they have been drivn. The specified pressure is for cold tires. The pressure rises when the tires are warm and if you set the specified pressure when warm, your tire will be under inflated.
Never use the tires pressure. Thats just a maximum pressure. There will be a placard in you fuel fill door or one of the door jambs with the proper tire pressure set cold. Usually about 3 or 4 psi higher for hot, but the best way is to set them cold.
