tire to tortion bar clearance
I have a 01 Audi a4 Quattro it has 17" tires on it. I was driving on a wash boardy gravel road noticed a rubbing sound it was dark out and i stopped and looked, did not find anything wrong. Next morning i woke up flat rear drivers side tire, looked at the inside of the tire it was wore down to the cords. Had it towed (with all wheels off the ground) to my local tires plus and had them check everything out. There diagnosis is that the rim is bent and tire was low and rubbed it to the cords by hitting the tortion bar. We replaced both rear tires and they said im good to go now watch the tire pressure keep it around 38lbs and i should be fine. The problem i think i have now is there is about 1/4 ince of clearance inbetween the tire and tortion bar. The rim seems to be fine to me if it is bent it cant be that bad. How much clearance should i have between the tire and tortion bar. Also what size tires should this car have? It does have some modifications so it wouldnt surprise me if it has bigger tires and rims than stock. Anyone have an idea?
