I got an 03 a4 cabriolet and the top wont go down or up. I push the button and the motor makes a noise but nothing happens. I can take it down manually though.

I was told the the window are not programmed with the top. Is there any truth to that? Also how much does it cost to get it reprogrammed?

Sometimes the top loses its basic settings, to opening the top all the way and lock it with the tool by removing the arm rest in the rear seat and pulling down the top. Then close it all the way and once again lock it down with the tool where the access port is on the roof. Then try using the switch again.
If that doesn't work you need to get the fault codes checked, we have all sorts of problems with the cabriolet tops.

 

If the one touch feature on the windows isnt programed the top wont work. You can program that yourself by raising all windows all the way up and then hitting up on the switch again with the windows all the way up.

 

thanks so much for the help. In the first reply what tool are you refering to? Do I need to buy it from Audi or is it an everyday tool?

 

I have no idea on the problem yet but ill consult my data, the tool required is a manual turn spanner/Allan keysame as the sunroof tool and used in case of electrical failure and should be with your service tools

 

On all US spec cars the tool is in the fuse box on the drivers's side. Pull off the panel and you will see a red T handle tool.

 

I dont want to break anything but how do you manually lower the top. And the windows all do go down with the one button so that is not the problem.

edit: please step by step instructions. I got the front of top unlocked but the one in the back I can not get it to turn.

 

I locked the top down and when I tried to raise it with the button It only went up half way than stoped. Si Ill just have to take it in.

 

Yeah, you probably have a faulty sensor for the top, or the switch is bad.
