Default Tranny nearly dry

I've posted before asking for advice on why I get a noise from my transmission above 3000rpm. Noise disappears when I depress the clutch. The clutch is a new SPEC 2 pressure plate and flywheel which works well. The noise has a rattle like sound to it. Before removing the tranny I thought I better check the oil level. I pumped a quart and a half of fluid into this tranny which still didn't fill it! Noise has diminished but is still present. My thinking is possibly the needle shaft bearing gave up. I'm looking for advice at this point. Tranny has 144,000 miles mostly freeway running a chipped 1.8 with a Nuespeed exhaust, K&N. 710N. My thinking is to drive until "all hell breaks loose" or look for a 6 speed unit to replace. Is that possible?

Your problem is a Pilot bearing.
