I have a 1996 A4 Quattro 2.8 V6 Manual. When I take off in 1st gear it makes a loud sound like a wind up car, when i shift to second the sound stops. when I take my foot off the gas theres a different wining sound. The car has NO loss of power it still drives and handles like a champ. does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to get it fixed before my wife finds out. I dont need to listen to her bitching. also does anyone know which relay controls the Speedometer & Odometer? I have a GTI aswell and it is relay 111 But all the relays on the A4 are 200+. any help would be great

 

Sounds like the first gear is starting to go. Not much you can do, however, I would change the transmission gear oil with fresh, high quality synthetic and see if that helps.

 

yea like he said.. change the gear oil see if it goes away if not start looking for a used tranny
