I just bought my 00' 1.8T quattro w\70k mi. on it a month and a half ago. Trans just lost reverse and a couple hours later it locked up completly and now when i let out the clutch it just dies. I got the thing up in the air and started removing the axles and so on an now im wondering if i have to drop the cradle to get the bolts on the backside? Im a lexus tech not used to working on these crazy german cars yet! any help is appreaciated thanks!

Woah... Locked up at 70,000 miles?!

*looks at Odometer*

That's insane man. Seeming as you're a tech, I'm sure you maintained the car correctly, right? Anything out of the ordinary occur prior to the lock up?

(On a side not: Is it weird that I have my mileage memorized after each drive? )

That's odd, I have 180k on my 96 and JUST broke a CV. My trans still engages every gear pretty smoothly, well not RIGHT now since there is no passenger side rear axle (stupid UPS didn't deliver it on time)

At least you started in the right place.

Check all the axles and brakes first, then move on to the driveshaft and differentials. If you reach no conclusion, the trans is gonna need to come out.
