hello I have a 1996 audi a4 automatic tranny. heres the problem. When the car has been sittin for lets say over night, when I start driving it it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. Only does it untill the car warms up. It goes high in rpms probably like 3000 rmps then jerks into 2nd gear. Once the car is warmed up it shifts smooth as butter. What could this be?

No we don't know why your tranny is shifting hard.

How many miles on your car? Is the car quattro or FWD. A bit of info would help us here.

When was the last time you serviced your transmission, like changing the tranny filter and fluid. When was the last time you even checked the auto transmission fluid level to make sure it hasn't leaked out. I'd start with some basic maintenance.

 

Ok... Some sarcasm... the car has 100k just had the tranny flushed. It is a front wheel drive. Thanks

I'm pretty sure ALL auto's wait till 3K to shift from 1st to 2nd when they are first started and cold. Mine does it, and did it, before and after the rebuild. Why it shifts hard, I don't know, but I sure wouldn't like that very much.
