Transmission Problems
Ok here is my problem I own a 1996 A4 and everyone is tellin me the tranny is gonna go out, I dont believe it cuz the car has only 84,000 miles on it. Here is the problem I just recently had my tranny fluid changed and my speed controll sensor on my transmission. For some reason the car will not go when you put it into drive but if you start off at 2 and go up to 3 and then to drive it will go fine, just taking off from drive it wont budge. Is there anyway to find out whats wrong with it? The nearest Audi dealer is about 4 hours from here and I really dont want to drive it there if the tranny is messed up. Let me know if this has happened to anyone on here.
Thanks
Thanks
It's probably the tranny. Having tranny fluid changed after long periods of neglect can cause tranny issues. If you just had it changed and it was never changed before 85,000 miles was doing good and it was about ready anyway. If I had to guess though I would say the tranny is shot.
1. Canging the transmission fluid does not cause problems (old myth).
2. The automatic transmissions on audis are "sealed units" and Audi says they have lifetime fills. Doesnt hurt to chagne the fluid once in a while.
3 I am assuming that you have an auto or do you have a tiptronic.
4. Were you having problems before you changed the fluid? Why did you change athe speed sensor?
5. Have you run a vagcom on the transmission to see what the codes are. This can't be done at Autozone as they wont be able to access the transmission control unit.
6. What Transmission fluid did you put in. How did you determine that you put in enough.

as has been said before, I'd check to make sure the correct fluid was used.
yes I did order the correct fluid and I had a BMW certified mechanic put the fluid in and everything, I havent had any prior problems with the car. Car ran fine shifted smooth, about a month ago I went out to start the car and let it warm up backed out and put the car in Drive and it wouldnt go. Also it was like -15 degrees that day. Just cant believe the tranny would go out with no prior symptoms. Let me know if anyone has had this problem before. Thanks
