granted this thread is about supporting mods for a bt or a k04 with appropriate tuning, but on top of all these costs, you WILL need a beefier clutch, esp if you go BT or if you get the pc-16 /j-31 / hammer file for the k04

The basic K04 also needs a 5 bar FPR

ORIGINAL: pyropenguin

Some turbo options for the A4-

Chipped k03 (needs diverter valve)
K04 on base software (needs diverter valve)
K04 PC-16/J31/hammer file (needs diverter valve, fmic, intake, exhaust, fpr, injectors, and i think that's it)
BT's:
GTRS Eliminator w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, intake, fmic, exhaust, fpr, injectors, and i think that's it)
2871 eliminator w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, intake, fmic, exhaust, fpr, injectors, and i think that's it)
Full GT28RS w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, intake, fmic, exhaust, fpr, injectors, Exhaust manifold, and i think that's it)
Full GT2871RS w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, intake, fmic, exhaust, fpr, injectors, Exhaust manifold, and i think that's it)
GT3071 w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, fmic, intake, exhaust, fpr, injectors, Exhaust manifold, and i think that's it)
GT35 w/ tuning (needs diverter valve, fmic, intake, exhaust, fpr, injectors, Exhaust manifold, and i think that's it)
with some of the larger turbos. gt3071 and 35 you will need new internals if you want to keep your motor in one piece

Then theres the T03/T04 setups, I'm not sure where they fit in. Those turbo setups are ranked from least power, to hte most power. I know mike2point0 on audizine is running 500+ whp from a GT35.

Edit-
Audiquette, BT = Big Turbo. Basically anything bigger than a K04. The GT30's and above are sometimes called B.A.T's (Big *** Turbo), too.

Is K03/K04 lingo for turbo stages or is it a model number for a turbo? I notice most of the pictures on your profiles are for B5 models. I have a B6 (2003) correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway I want to do the turbo upgrade. I did limited research about keeping stock turbo and chipping my car. From what I gathered all I have to do is flash my ECU and install new DV. If I wanted to go one step higher and upgrade turbo what are my options? I want to keep all internals the same. I want to keep stock exhaust. What setup would you guys recommend?

Any input will be appreciated.

even with a K04 there are still some mods you need to do if you don't want to have problems in the near future. Injectors, FMIC, DV, flashed ECU, and exhaust if you want to get more out of the turbo. If you are still weary about any of these things I suggest doing a bunch more reading/searching and get your friend to help you. hopefully he knows something, although he probably doesn't know anything either and thats why he sold the turbo lol
you probably need an exhaust... and you definitly need injecotrs, dv, ECU tune... but you don't need a front mount for a K04.. it will work fine without one

Running a chipped K03 on stock exhaust, is... dumb

Running a K04 thats tuned on stock exhaust is, iffy...

What is your issue with upping the exhaust.. if you go milltek you can keep your stock sound, with a little bit more growl, hell even borla stock has no sound (Which is why I ripped off 1 resonator)

Get an exhaust.

Want to leave exhaust untouched for 2 reasons.

1. Sound
2. Cost

I am not trying to get every possible hp out of that car. I would just like to get a little more kick then the stock hp. This car is my commuter and I'm not trying to make it track-worthy. If I want tofeel some serious G'sI have a big block 67 Camaro and tuned yamaha R1 that I do take to the track.

A lot of guys ask the question what is your desired hp gain. Well if I got 60 hp more I would be happy. If I can do that by chipping the car and changing DV i have no problem. If I have to slap a new exhaust, injectors, etc then I'd rather leave it as is.

I appreciate your input even doe it seems like you're a little condescending. None of us are born turbo or engine gurus. Ask me anything you want about an american motor or sport bike setup and I will gladly share any knowledge that I have.

At the risk of getting another similar answer I would like to know why you feel the stock turbo, chipped with stock exhaust is "stupid"??

Well if you wanna be cheap on cost then go with a Testpipe.. but then that X's out sound.. so you really can't go anywhere with that

Well, our stock exhaust have small downpipes, small mufflers...

Stock exhaust setup has some restriction, as is....it will have max restriction with a chipped ECU... If you even go one up and want to get a K04 then stuff will prolly go wrong, thats to much pressure building up in those stock pipes. You need to go aftermarket exhaust with a wider pipe diameter for a K04 most definitly, and you should get that for a ECU tuned setup. Thats just my opinion.... you can run a chip with stock exhaust if you want. But running a K04 setup is realllly pushing it if you ask me.

Plus a K04 is 1500 + installation... so? Why not spend 300-500 on a custom exhaust setup, or spend 150$ for a testpipe. You can go with the exhaust and keep the sound low, but spend more.. or you can go testpipe and be louder and it will cost less and show more gains. Its all personal preference I suppose.

Do you think it's possible to get a gain of 50-60 hp with stock turbo and APR chip? The chip is about $500 at my local dealer. What other "hidden" charges would I encounter if I just went that route? Labor ??? DV??? Etc.

No Labor.

You will have to pay for a DV, but you can get one to support your APR applciation for 35$

Your looking at 30-45HP gains... it will feel insanely different and faster, it might not be 50-60 but its worth it.

I'd take that route, you can keep your stock exhaust and get your sought after power
