Upgrade rear shelf speakers

Upgrade rear shelf speakers
I have a bose stereo system. I've read a lot of the audiworld tech articles, a lot of which tell you how to swap out the bose speakers on the rear shelf, unmounting the amp, and wiring in new free-air subs.
The article gives reference to speakers that I am pretty sure are discontinued b/c the ones coming up on the parts express site are not dual voice coil, at least i don't think they are. I'd like to have the speakers be at least 4ohms so i can retain at least aprox. half the wattage/power. Also, the ones listed on the audi world site require cutting of the rear shelf, and i'd like to keep the holes on my shelf intact.
Anybody here do anything of the sort? Any advice of course would be appreciated.
