Upper left dashboard illumination problem - 97 1.8TQ
One thing after another.....
Was out driving this evening when the fuel warning light came up. I wasn't far from my usual Mobil filling station so dropped in and filled up.
On starting the car again and flicking on the headlights I noticed that the upper left portion of the dashboard didn't illuminate.... ie. from 2 through 6 on the analog tacho...
Does anyone have any experience of this. My thoughts are it's either a bulb (but who knows how one gets back there to replace it?) or a fuse. But I haven't had the car long and have to admit I don't even know where to look for the dash fuses.
Appreciate any help you can offer.....
Thanks

Hmmm... I was afraid of that.... Do you know if that means removing the whole instrucment cluster?
If so I presume I should replace all the other bulbs in there....???

Early models like the 96 and some 97's used bulbs for the cluster.
If yours does, then you need these.

Thanks for your insight. I had reason to be in the neighbourhood of the dealership today and popped in to ask them about it.
Fifteen minutes and about $US10 later I was back in the car with the problem behind me. The technician had the instrument cluster out of the car in less than 5 mins - so glad I didn't endeavour to remove it myself..... without a shop manual I'm sure it would have taken me a while to work out how to get the cluster out.....
And yes... just a bulb replacement..... a buck of the charge was for the bulb, the balance for labour....
