Vac Leak Causing Rich Condition???
Ok, So i have a small vac leak in my car. (11HG instead of the normal 20-25Hg). Could this cause me to run rich? I read in Alias post that if there is a loss in vacuum then the FPR will go full rich. Is that true? My MPG sucks right now (Driving easy I can't get to 300miles. GRRR) Thanks for the info. I am going to be replacing all my vacuum lines this weekend when I tear my front end appart to install my Timing Belt, WaterPump, FMIC, Front SNUB mount, and Valve Cover Gasket. (it is going to be a long weekend!!!)

I noticed on the 1.8T Troubleshooting guide that is said a vac leak would cause the car to run lean. Which one is it? Oh and last time I replaced my spark plugs they were dripping.

it will affect your power and gas at some point... but if u had a big enough leak to really affect your MPG you would get a CEL, if u don’t have CEL I wouldn’t worry too much about gas, and under 300miles for AT more likely normal, have u tried using ejector cleaner every once in a while? it really helps. good luck on your project… get lots of new tubes and zip ties…. one of those weekend i’ll do my tb, it’s on the way…

I never have any problems getting more than 300 miles to a tank, even driving like an ***. Replacing vac lines is not difficult, but when you look at where they run throuout the engine bay youll find yourself thinking "WTF!?". The DV vac line is sort of tricky, it helps if you take the guts out of a pen and slip the new vac line through it and slide it under the intake manifold to get it on the nipple straight. There is no other easy way to get at that one. Then there is one that runs on the back of the engine that is sorta tricky too, but other than those 2, its pretty simple. Good luck with the Tbelt! I think this might be causing me to run rich also. Im having horrible gas mileage and nothign was clogged or defective with my EGR. The vacuum system should pull about 25 Hg? I thought i was like 11 standard.

No its not hard, just takes time. A weekend is more than enough time. Took me and a helper about 7 hours to do mine, but i also did the water pump and all the other belts and t stat too. Vac lines are 3.5mm .
