Vin # and odd number from dealership

Vin # and odd number from dealership
I ordered a A4 Avant in early October, and just last week my dealership gave me the VIN number (wau4fcfl2ca093232). Now I emailed him today and asked him to keep me informed on where the car was, when it would be loaded on a ship, etc...
He emailed me back with L31476, which seems to be a dealership ID order number of some sort. My dealership is called Lauzon, so I am assuming that this number means car #31476 ordeded by that particular dealership. The problem is what when I asked him what that number referred to, or where I go look it up, he had no idea. Bright fellows no doubt.
Anyone have any other ideas?
