The ballasts put out a little heat, but not all that much - it's really not a worry. You don't have to worry about shielding them if they're mounted on or near plastic or anything like that. I've driven overnight with them on, and they aren't even hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch. Also, the ballasts are pretty much sealed, so no worries about the elements getting on or to them and causing problems.

 

My friend just told me that HIDs dont perform well when the ground and road are snow covered. Anyone have any experience using them during snowy weather?

 

Depends on the conditions, just like with halogens. If the roads are just covered, then they work great, better than halogens (as you'd expect) and the greater light output from them illuminates farther and with more detail on the road. In heavy, driving snow, they may be worse than halogens. When you're driving in heavy snow conditions, your headlights tend to glare badly off the falling snow. With HIDs that can be actually worse, since again the intensity of light is greater. That's why the foglight rewire mod in on AudiWorld's tech area is a good thing to do - if you're in those conditions, you can run your fogs without the headlights, and at least the illumination is significantly lower than the level of your eyes, and you don't suffer that washout of visibility.

 

Got my HIDs today and installed them! Took me like 2 hours to fit the ballasts to the bottom of the headlights properly, but it is totally stealth. Cant wait for tonight.
Wife has the camera with her, so I didnt get to take pics. Ill try to do that tonight or tomorrow.
I made the dumbass mistake of staring directly into the headlight and was blinded temporarily [8D]
Now I have to vaccum the my floor because its plastered with plastic shavings from trimming the headlight [:@]

Does anyone have the 8000K's? how do they look. I like the blue, but I don't tooo blue.

 

then I think you'll probably like 6000K. 8000 is reallllly blue from what I've seen, even my 6000K seem quite blue to me.

lazer viking has 8K I believe.
