Warped Front Rotors - When to get fixed??
just get a Haynes repair manual for like $30 of ebay, it'll tell ya exactly what tools you'll need and give you a step-by-step of exactly what you need to do to take off the brake calipers. plus if you have the time and willingness to do it, it's sometimes fun to DIY n you can learn a lil about your car while doing so.
I got some OEM rotors for sale. A4 1999.5 (pair for front)
ORIGINAL: spagolli94
My steering when shakes when I brake at high-speeds. Last time I had it at the dealership, they told me that my front rotors were warped and that sounds like the right diagnosis to me. They wanted $425 to put on new front rotors. Should I get it done at the dealership, or can somebody recommend a cheaper place to have it done. Would trying to save a buck and going to a place like Midas be a bad idea? After all, it's just replacing some rotors, so it doesn't seem like there would be too much they could F up. Any suggestions on how I can get the job done right for less than $425?

what you missed out was the cost and mail, I do wish you people would be more honest so that other members could rip you apart for over pricing, or congratulating you on low prices
Thanks for the tips guys, but I don't think I'm going to go the DIY route. I can change components on a computer, I put a pipe and fender eliminator on my bike, but I just don't feel confident when it comes to brakes. I don't know the first thing about them. I don't know what screws to turn, or which to leave alone. With my luck, I'd unscrew everything, get it all apart and then not be able to get it back together. Then I'd be really screwed.
My only choice would be to get a manual and learn how to do it. By the time I got the right parts, did it wrong, fixed it, did it right, get everything back together... uggugh. Maybe 10 years ago I had this kind of time, but not now. I know a lot of you are into fixing your cars - it's a good hobby to have. It's just not something I care to get into. I don't even change my own oil!!!
The guys I go to the track with all give me a hard time. I'm like Cole Trickle. hahaha
Good news is, if Hellen Keller could do it, then I certainly don't need to pay Audi dealer prices.
Car is an 02 3.0, 6spd. It's under warranty (CPO), but brakes are wear and tear, thus not covered.
Again, thanks for all the tips.

Any good trusted garage should be able to do this without problem.
You can go online eg german parts online and get new rotors and some new pads and take them to your mechanic. Labor should run about 100 dollars. 2 rotors about 60, pads another 40-50
